The CMYK color model (process color, four color) is a subtractive color model, used in color printing and is also used to describe the printing process itself. Inks used in CMYK printing come in 4 colors: Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black.
This type of printing consists of printing with 1 or more pre-mixed colors (generally 1, 2 or 3 colors at once). Spot printing uses a color system of solid, premixed colors known as Pantone colors.
Cold foil printing, also known as cold foil stamping, is a modern method of printing metallic foil on a substrate in order to enhance the aesthetic of the final product. Cold Foil is applied to a UV-curable adhesive image using a standard printing plate. Generally silver, but also comes in gold and custom holographic designs. It is used to highlight and enhance label packaging and design.
To print the images directly onto the transparent material in any color that meaning your labels will be printed with less saturated colors due to its inherent “see through” property. When adhering to a dark glass bottle, the color display would be very poor. To keep colors bright and opaque, the solution is to have white ink printing underneath. White ink is used to overcome the color of the paper or other substrate providing a white background or base. Especially on clear and metallic substrates, white ink printing underneath is necessary to prevent light from passing through and affecting other colors.
Invisible ink printing, also known as security ink printing, is a substance used for writing, which is invisible either on application or soon thereafter, and can later be made visible by some means. The ink may be revealed by heat or by application of an appropriate chemical, or it may be made visible by viewing under ultraviolet light.
Microprinting is an anti-counterfeiting technique in which very small text is added to the artwork. The type is set so small that it is difficult or impossible to read with the naked eye. This also makes it difficult to reproduce accurately using copiers or scanners. Printing the text on a background makes it even more difficult to detect. Microprinting is also an inexpensive security solution that fits tinier budgets.
Variable data printing is for labels that have the same layout and design throughout the entire run, but a section of the design is left empty where the variable data will be printed. Often variable data printing is used to print Serial number, QR codes or barcodes on labels.
