Cold Foil Printing
Cold Foil Stamping
Cold foil printing, also known as cold foil stamping, is a modern method of printing metallic foil on a substrate in order to enhance the aesthetic of the final product. Cold Foil is applied to a UV-curable adhesive image using a standard printing plate. Generally silver, but also comes in gold and custom holographic designs. It is used to highlight and enhance label packaging and design.
Cost-Effective inline processThe cold foil process is done in-line on press and therefore eliminates the need for a second off-line operation of hot foil stamping. Being in-line that inks, varnishes, and coatings can be applied over the cold foil on press. The cold foil printing is a cost-effective inline process that works in conjunction with most printing techniques, mimicking the effect of hot foil stamping.
Cold Foil vs. Hot Foil – What's the Difference?Cold foil must be applied to completely smooth and flat label materials and it cannot be combined with embossing. The hot foil can be applied to rough label stocks and textured papers, and even together with embossing. The difference between both in appearance is relatively minor. Cold foil will lay completely flat against the label surface, while hot foil will have a very slight raised appearance.
