Preflight for printing
In printing, Preflight is the process of confirming that the digital files required for the printing process are all present, valid, correctly formatted, and of the desired type. The basic idea is to prepare the files to make them feasible for the correct process and eliminate costly errors and facilitate a smooth production. It is a standard prepress procedure in the printing industry.
Preflight Prepress Files for Print Quality ControlA preflight solution can check print documents for print quality control. There are the 4 most common preflight considerations for most print jobs.
File FormatsThis is absolutely crucial to send the correct file formats for your project. For a full editable capability requirement, we would prefer original files in .ai format from your design programs, like illustrator. Of course, pdf file that is limited editable capability can also be working.
ColorFor most full-color projects, RGB colors in the palette should be removed and replaced with colors using the 4-tone CMYK system. Make sure all images and text are in CMYK. Make sure color naming is consistent across layout and other files. Check the properties of each image to make sure they are in CMYK color mode. If they are in RGB, grayscale or some other mode, be sure to convert those images to CMYK.
Image ResolutionMake sure image files have good resolution that’s up to par with the printing or output method being used. The great file for printing is made with vector graphics.
